Senior Manager, Specification Sales

About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Specification Sales Manager to lead business development efforts within the construction sector. This leadership position focuses on pre-sales engagement, client relationship management, and driving specifications with key stakeholders such as architects, consultants, and contractors. You will play a pivotal role in expanding market presence and securing long-term growth through proactive specification selling strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the specification sales function, ensuring alignment with business objectives and growth targets.

  • Drive pre-sales activities by engaging early with consultants, architects, and contractors to secure product specifications in projects.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor for technical and commercial requirements.

  • Develop and execute business development strategies to increase market share and penetration.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to the specification sales team to maximize performance.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, technical support, operations) to deliver value-added solutions to clients.

  • Monitor construction industry trends, project pipelines, and competitor activities to identify opportunities.

  • Deliver accurate reporting, forecasts, and updates on market activities and sales performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.

  • At least 10-15 years' experience in specification sales, business development, or project sales within the construction or building materials industry.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a sales team.

  • Proven track record of securing product specifications in projects and achieving sales targets.

  • Excellent networking and relationship-building skills with consultants, architects, and contractors.

  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to negotiate at senior levels.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and results-driven with a deep understanding of the construction project lifecycle.
