Senior Construction Director, APAC - Data Centre
Job description
One of the world's largest data centre service providers is looking for an established and dynamic Senior Construction Director, APAC to lead the planning, development and execution of all greenfield new data centre setup projects across the Asia Pacific region. This position reports to the Global VP, Construction Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and determine the business and functional direction and in line with the strategies, plans and targets of the company
- Monitor project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints, tracking expenses, and implementing cost-saving measures without compromising the quality of deliverables
- Develop comprehensive engineering plans that define scope, objectives, timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with cross-functional teams to achieve seamless execution
- Responsible for the preparation of scopes of work, safety, project delivery resource requirements, cost estimates and budgets, work plan schedule and milestones, quality control, and risk identification
- Responsible for leading construction teams to achieve project goals related to cost, schedule, and safety
- Overseeing general contractors, project teams, direct contractors, third party testing agencies, the project controls and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) teams for each project
- Responsible for tracking project timelines to ensure milestones are being met by each of these entities
- Ensure construction team liaisons with Architect/Engineer to ensure preconstruction and construction activities are harmonious and coordination of activities happen in timely manner (e.g., submittal approvals, RFI responses, etc.)
- Leading the project delivery resources/team providing project guidance and direction to achieve project goals. Implements communication plan for meetings and written reports/meeting minutes to keep client and project resources informed
- Ensuring compliance with the company standards on all projects and assure that these standards are up-to-date with industry best practices and meet the company's business objectives
- Lead the review, development and implementation of formal procedures and policies, covering all aspects of the unit's operations including the methodology and approach of the planning and execution of projects to result in effective and efficient project delivery and governance
- Assist in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures
- Communicate status of projects to both internal and external stakeholders on an ad-hoc and formal basis. Ensure all stakeholders are up-to-date with regards to design schedule and potential issues. Prepare monthly project reports regarding the budget, schedule, and scope objectives of assigned projects
Key Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical/Electronics/Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or equivalent
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferable
- Minimum fifteen years of experience in managing the construction of critical facilities and complex infrastructure
- Prior experience handling the construction of data centres is ideal
- Experience in managing projects over $100 million would be highly advantageous
- Demonstrated leadership ability in dealing with Owners, Architects, Contractors, and internal stakeholders
- Extensive knowledge of schedule, cost control, budgeting, and value engineering
- Familiarity of all aspects of building to include site work, core, and shell, mechanical and electrical, utilities, finishes, etc
- Ability to work in an international team environment and interact with all levels of management, including C-Suite reviews
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices
- Proven experience implementing processes in rapid growth environments and operating in compliance with global regulations
- Skilled in creating collaborative environments, organizing meetings, and possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Able to work autonomously, be self-driven and not reliant on others
- Able to adapt yourself well in various international settings for long periods of time
- Able to resolve conflicts, visionary and possess the foresight to plan ahead for the business
