Head of Sustainability & ESG

A renowned public listed property and construction company is looking for a Head of Sustainability & ESG to develop and implement the social, environmental, and economic governance sustainability policies. This role reports to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce the Sustainability Statement by compiling data on material issues gathered from information owners of responsible Business Units, planning and overseeing the writing as well as reviewing of the Sustainability Statement, and ensuring the Statement fulfils Bursa Malaysia's requirements
• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to ensure that contents of the Sustainability Statement are accurate and up-to-date
• Monitor the overall progress of the organisation's sustainability performance and develop recommendations towards improving the sustainability practices
• Lead the development, execution, and management of strategic sustainability initiatives, including the Sustainability Strategy (5-year Roadmap) and related processes (including sustainability reporting, communication, and promotions), and to ensure a standard and consistent adaptation Group-wide, with the support/buy-in of the Board of Directors and Management Committee
• Deriving material understanding for the organisation leading to the effective and efficient development of Sustainability strategies and communications - through benchmarking exercises, internal assessments, leading of stakeholder engagement groups and conduct of workshops
• Setting up of Sustainability Steering Committee for the Group with the support of Group Management Committee - purpose of developing and harnessing sustainability buy-in/support from key decision makers within the Group
• Driving Sustainability knowledge development & awareness across the Group - via various portals including campaigns, town halls, and internal communications and various sharing sessions
• Effective communication and presentation at different working levels (including Board, CEO, senior management, middle management, executives)
• Promote sustainability activities and initiatives
• Serve as primary contact for questions and/or suggestions regarding Sustainability and sustainability reporting

Key Requirements:

• Degree in Environmental Studies/Sustainable Development/Environmental Science/Biodiversity/Conservation or related field of study
• Minimum ten years of experience working in the sustainability department of large public listed organisations
• Prior experience in the property industry is highly preferable
• Familiarity with BURSA requirements, GRI standards, FTSE4GOOD and UN Sustainability goals are crucial
• Experience with ISO14001 environment management standard would be an added advantage
• Good understanding of High Conservation Value (HCV), High Carbon Stock (HCS), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA), and Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP)
• Knowledge of ISCC ISO 14064 principles and requirements at the organization level for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals is preferred. This includes requirements for the design, development, management, reporting and verification of an organization's GHG inventory
• Strong understanding of principles of ESG integration, ESG risk management, sustainable insurance solutions, sustainability reporting, and data collection
• In-depth knowledge of ESG principles, frameworks, and reporting standards (e.g., Bursa Malaysia's Sustainability Reporting Guide, GRI, SASB, TCFD)

• High-level of sustainability knowledge and expertise in sustainability management and reporting, environment management systems and environmental performance, occupational health along with safety management systems and performance
• Candidate with hands-on sustainability reporting and advisory experience is highly preferred
• Efficient, strong work ethics - able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to contribute to the effective delivery of project deliverables outputs and support the project team members where necessary
• Ability to analyse sustainability data and information, create interesting and engaging findings and present the information in a concise manner
• Excellent written and spoken English fluency
