Head of Projects

Job description

My client is a global leading supplier of water and wastewater treatment systems in the industrial sector. Thsi role will be based in Penang, Malaysia.

The Head of Projects plays a critical role in driving the successful execution of projects and ensuring customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and business growth across the Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Philippines markets.

  1. Project Management:

    • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of all projects related to water and wastewater treatment systems in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
    • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets in coordination with the engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
    • Ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets, identifying and addressing any deviations promptly.
    • Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and mitigate risks to ensure successful project delivery.
  2. Team Leadership:

    • Lead and manage a team of project managers, engineers, and support staff across multiple locations.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing feedback to ensure the professional development and success of team members.
  3. Client Relationship Management:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, building and maintaining strong relationships.
    • Understand client requirements, expectations, and concerns, and ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed their expectations.
    • Address client inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and effectively, demonstrating a commitment to client satisfaction and retention.
  4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce quality assurance processes and standards to ensure that all projects meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess project quality, safety, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
    • Work closely with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to obtain necessary permits and approvals for project implementation.
  5. Resource Management:

    • Manage project resources effectively, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, to optimize project performance and profitability.
    • Coordinate with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and equipment required for project execution.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve resource utilization across projects.
  6. Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare and present regular reports on project status, progress, budget variance, and other key performance indicators to senior management and stakeholders.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including contracts, drawings, specifications, change orders, and other relevant records.
    • Ensure compliance with internal reporting requirements and procedures, as well as client-specific reporting obligations.
  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management processes, tools, and methodologies.
    • Foster a culture of innovation and learning within the project management team, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to water and wastewater treatment systems, and incorporate them into project planning and execution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project management (over 20 years of experience), with a minimum of 10-15 years in the water and wastewater treatment industry, and a track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and team members at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and tools, with relevant certifications (e.g., PMP) preferred.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the region as required.
