Senior Database Administrator (R&D team)

About our client:
We are partnering with a globally reputable software company that is always keeping up with the latest technology. This role is to join their Research and Development team to test various database and work on enhancing and finding the optimum setup. They are looking for someone with experience utilizing various databases in their experience to join this team and provide insight as well and continue exploring on different databases.

Key Responsibilities:

Innovation and enhancement

• Drive research, design, and development of improvements to existing database management systems, including new monitoring and troubleshooting utilities.
• Build prototypes and validate new approaches for data storage, retrieval, and processing to enhance scalability and performance.

Optimization and Support

• Deliver expert-level support across enterprise DBMS platforms such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, MSSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, IBM Db2, and others.
• Oversee performance tuning, incident management, root cause analysis, and availability optimization for mission‑critical systems.
• Work closely with application teams to improve query performance and database schema efficiency.

Technology Research and Adoption

• Continuously explore emerging database technologies, architectures, and best practices.
• Recommend and champion modern solutions, including distributed databases, cloud‑native platforms, and automation frameworks.

Leadership and Collaboration

• Mentor junior engineers and help define technical standards, engineering methodologies, and best practices.
• Collaborate across teams to drive consistency, quality, and innovation in DBMS engineering

Skills & Experiences required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field with at least 7 years of experience in database engineering or development.
• Strong command of SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Deep expertise with major RDBMS platforms including Oracle, PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, MSSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB.
• Practical experience with tuning, partitioning, replication, and backup/restore operations.
• Working knowledge of NoSQL systems (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) and familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Some good to haves:

• Interest and experience in tools development, SQL optimization, and modern database ecosystems.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and collaborate within a team environment.
• Additional familiarity with server administration and multi‑OS environments is a plus.
