Assistant IT Manager (Retail industry)

About our client:

Our client is a well‑established regional organization with a strong physical and digital footprint, looking to hire an Assistant IT Manager to support and oversee IT operations across office and multi‑site environments.

This role sits at the intersection of IT operations, application support, and project delivery, working closely with business stakeholders and external vendors to ensure technology effectively supports ongoing business growth.

The ideal candidate is someone with experience with IT infrastructure and applications such as POS and ERP as well as someone that is comfortable with frequent travelling for on-site troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & Support

  • Oversee daily IT operations covering office users and multiple business locations
  • Provide hands‑on support for end‑user computing, applications, and devices
  • Act as an escalation point for complex incidents and ensure timely resolution
  • Ensure IT systems remain stable, secure, well‑documented, and fit for business use

Business & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Gather and understand business requirements, translating them into IT solutions
  • Serve as a bridge between users, internal IT resources, and third‑party vendors
  • Build strong working relationships with business and functional stakeholders

Projects & System Enhancements

  • Act as Project Manager / Coordinator for IT initiatives including:
    • System implementations and enhancements
    • Application upgrades
    • Infrastructure improvements
  • Coordinate timelines, vendors, testing, and go‑live activities

Applications, Retail & Enterprise Systems

  • Provide support for core business systems such as ERP, POS, CRM, eCommerce, or WMS
  • Support new site openings, relocations, or closures by planning and coordinating all IT‑related activities
  • Ensure smooth handover and documentation for operational teams

Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain IT documentation, procedures, and operational runbooks
  • Support ITSM processes (incident, change, service management)
  • Assist with IT budgeting exposure (CAPEX / OPEX) where applicable

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience in a medium to large organisation
  • Prior exposure to multi‑site or business‑critical IT environments
  • Hands‑on experience providing both application and infrastructure support

Technical Exposure (Any of the following is advantageous)

  • Enterprise systems: ERP (SAP ECC / S4, or similar), POS, CRM, eCommerce, WMS
  • Microsoft ecosystem: Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure
  • Databases: SQL
  • End‑user devices: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android
  • Collaboration tools and meeting room technology
  • Networking fundamentals (routers, switches, firewalls - Meraki exposure is a plus)

Certifications (Nice to Have)

  • ITIL, CCNA, PMP or equivalent
